Looking back and ahead

My daughters helped me compose this photo and lit it using a hand-held LED flashlight. I really had little to do with this except holding the camera and pressing the button. Anyone else have art directors ages four and six?

What an incredible year for running 2012 turned out to be for me. As my season comes to a close, I can’t help but look back and smile at some of the great experiences I’ve had because of running.

Sweet run at the Candy Cane Lane 5k

That’s me on the right with my brother-in-law Phil Moreau. He finished 15th overall and first in the 35-39 year old males age group. My five-year-old niece Ivy finished the 2.5k fun run in under 17 minutes.

Ran the Candy Cane Lane 5k on the weekend and for the second year in a row, this course got the better of me.

Sorry Carlos, and thank you

I finished fourth overall in the Casablanca Classic 8k race and earned a first-place medal in the 30 to 34 age group.

Sometimes you just have to gut it out to the very end because it ain’t over ’til it is over.

Of course, I know this. But it was definitely a lesson learned during last weekend’s Casablanca Classic in Grimsby, the final event for the 2012 Subaru Niagara Running Series. I ran the eight kilometer race, finishing fourth overall and placing first in the 30 to 34 men’s age group.
