Got some good news today: my entry into the 2014 Boston Marathon was accepted.
There’s always been something about the Boston Marathon that’s captured my imagination, even before I was a runner. I loved talking to people who had run it, who were getting ready to run it and who were trying to qualify for it.
So, I’m really excited. April 21, 2014 can’t come fast enough, although I know I have a long road ahead of me. For starters, I’ve never really done high volume training through the winter. Winters in Niagara haven’t been that harsh the last couple of years, but I really don’t know what to expect. Except for hill runs on some slippery slopes.
Plus, I don’t want to look too far ahead. I’ve got the Run for the Grapes half marathon coming up and the Niagara Falls International Marathon, the race where I ran my qualifying time to get into Boston. I’ve been working really hard to get ready for these races: I’ve got my sights set on some ambitious goals.
Have a few shorter races in mind before the end of the year. And then, after a well-deserve break over the holidays it’ll be time to get to work. Because after the famous marathon in April, I plan to leave Boston with a shiny new PB!
